The Quiet Power of Calm Email Marketing

At the heart of a calm, sustainable marketing strategy lies something beautifully simple: your newsletter.

In this day and age of noise and hustle, a newsletter is like an oasis.

It’s where you build trust and connection, share your voice, and grow in a way that feels meaningful and steady.

I think of it as the joyful heart of my Calm Email Marketing approach: where you can build an engaged, loyal audience through beautiful newsletters and calm, evergreen funnels. Having that ongoing conversation with my audience is one of my favorite things I do in my business!

When I launched a new course in January 2025, I leaned on the very same Calm Email Marketing framework I now teach. The result was a five-figure launch that felt spacious and grounded… for both me and my audience.

In this post, I’ll take you behind the scenes of that launch. My hope is that it might spark your own love for email marketing and all its power and potential.

Let’s begin by exploring why having a newsletter is always a good idea…

5 reasons why a newsletter works

A newsletter is a highly effective tool for growing your audience, establishing trust, and building a community around shared values.

  1. You build trust and credibility.
A newsletter is a great way to share what you’re all about, how you can help, and what you stand for. By sharing your thoughts, opinions, and expertise over time, your subscribers get to know and trust you in a deeper way.

  2. You have control.
Unlike social media, where you’re at the mercy of algorithms and trends, you have 100% control over your newsletter. Your words go directly to your readers’ inboxes, not a feed you can’t predict. You also have full access to your subscriber data, which means freedom and flexibility if you ever want to change platforms.

  3. It’s personal.
Away from the buzz of social media, newsletters are intimate and direct. Just like getting a letter in the post, they invite a deeper, more reflective way of communicating with your audience.

  4. It establishes your expertise.
By sharing valuable insights and resources, you naturally show that you know your craft. This builds both authority and trust in a way that feels genuine, not forced.

  5. It’s a great sales tool.
Your newsletter becomes a quiet but consistent ambassador for your work. When someone is ready to take the next step — whether that’s joining a course, booking a service, or buying a product — you’ll already be top of mind.

How Calm Email Marketing helped me to a five-figure launch

When I first launched my newsletter in 2016, I had no intention for email marketing to become such a central part of my marketing strategy. To be honest, I had a challenging relationship with marketing and always thought I was ‘not good’ at it.

Now, I realize that what I wasn’t ‘good’ at was hustling.

I rejected hustle culture early on, and because no one was talking about viable alternatives for us gentle and sensitive solopreneurs, I just thought I was not ‘good at marketing.’

For years, I did not have lead magnets or funnels because they were too tied up with hustle culture. My list grew slowly and organically as a result. Later, when I did introduce lead magnets and funnels, my list did not explode because I never used high-pressure FOMO tactics to attract subscribers into my funnel. But it did grow steadily, and more importantly, with the right kind of people: heart-centered, gentle solopreneurs who were looking for a calmer, authentic way to do business.

I have never used ads, and my audience has always been modest compared to other six-figure businesses. At the end of 2024, my list was just over 5,000 subscribers.

Then, in January 2025, I realized the true power of my email marketing when I launched my Calm Business Foundation course. Over two weeks, it generated $23,275, and $17,500 of that came from email marketing.

How I had a Five-Figure Launch thanks to Calm Email Marketing

This outcome was remarkable for a number of reasons:

  • I took a semi-sabbatical in 2024. I stopped selling my Squarespace courses, and my only product was a low-cost monthly subscription, which 150 entrepreneurs had signed up for. 2024 turned into an unplanned but much-needed year of rest, enjoying our overseas visitors, and savoring the beautiful summer.

  • I did send Calm Letters and emails to my waitlist throughout the year, mostly to apologize for the delay in launching my new course!

  • Overall, I was mostly absent from my business.

So when launch time finally came, I had no idea what to expect. My pre-launch sequence was half-finished; I was tired and trying to balance finishing the course content with writing emails. It all felt a little haphazard.

Ye of little faith.

It was an amazing launch, and I more than doubled my sign-up goal!

As you can see from the graphic, most of my sales came from my email marketing.

The rest was from Instagram and direct visits via SEO. In fact, my Calm Business website was still quite new; I only launched it in 2024. So, my SEO was still evolving, which made me even more grateful for having an engaged mailing list.

I know now that the success of this launch was the result of having a loyal audience who trusts me even when I go a little quiet for a whole year.
