The Post-Hustle Era: What Now for Course Creators?

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: hustle culture, AI, and the online course industry.

It is no secret…

🙋🏼‍♀️ I’m not a fan of hustle culture. At all.

Sadly, hustle culture is deeply embedded in the online course industry, exacerbated by the influx of generative AI.

Just the other day, I came across yet another hustler promising to teach me — in just ONE DAY — how to create a course people are obsessed with, using her secret viral course creation technique that helped her generate over $20 million in course sales! AI will basically do it all for me in hours, and I’ll launch and start waking up to sales notifications. And all of this for only $87 instead of the usual $8,700! (Not a typo) 🙄

Sigh.

Hustle culture, with its secrets and manipulative high-pressure sales tactics, has always been problematic, but AI is taking it to new levels.

And the consequence?

More fluffed-up, poorly written lead magnets. More garbage courses.

If I sound a bit disillusioned, that’s because a part of me is. I find it all quite disheartening and also overwhelming in its relentlessness.

Alas.

Here is what I also find encouraging.

The very thing that's flooding the internet with noise is also creating an unexpected opportunity.

When AI-generated content is everywhere, genuine human expertise becomes rare.

When every other course is cobbled together from AI prompts and shortcuts, a course built on ten years of real experience stands out. When everyone is chasing scale, the person who quietly shows up with depth and integrity becomes someone people actually trust.

I've been watching the big names in the online course world pivot – first from "passive-income secrets" to "seven figures is the new six figures," and now to "let AI do it all for you in minutes." Same hustle, new packaging. And while they chase the next shiny thing, something else is quietly emerging:

A growing number of entrepreneurs who are done with all of it. People who want to build something real, at their own pace, in their own voice. People who measure success not by vanity metrics but by sustainability, balance, and satisfaction. They don’t want more, they want enough – enough freedom to live the life they want, enough money to support that life.

I think of this as the post-hustle era. And I think it belongs to us.

This is the point when I take a deep breath and come back to my center.

🧡 Here is my truth: I am a big fan of online education.

I love how the internet has made learning and teaching more accessible and affordable for people from all walks of life. Becoming a course creator in my 50s has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined when I was working as an employee for others. The freedom of being my own boss has been amazing. When my online course business surpassed its first $100K in revenue, it felt a little unreal, but I was also very proud of having created that from zero. Seeing my students thrive in their own businesses is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

As for hustle culture – I basically put on my business blinders and tune it out as best as possible. There’s no need to spend any energy in that arena. I’d rather focus on providing a safe and calm space for my people, where we do things with heart and integrity.
