Entrepreneur Spotlight・Liza Snyder・Artist & Art Teacher

Today I am very excited to introduce a new interview series: Entrepreneur Spotlights! I’ve been teaching classes in all things Squarespace since 2016 and figured it was about time to showcase some of my awesome students and their businesses. I find their resilience, creativity and resourcefulness during these times of deep uncertainty very inspiring and uplifting. I hope you enjoy meeting these wonderful and talented entrepreneurs!

Liza Snyder is an artist and art teacher. She considered herself an artist at an early age. After studying printmaking and obtaining a BFA from Auburn University in 2001, Liza put down creating for a long season. A friend’s urging and a personal awakening allowed her art to reemerge.

Today, her artwork is reflective of the beauty and wonder surrounding her home and studio. Liza’s hope is that her creations invite the viewer to both joy and contemplation. Liza is in her studio most days creating and "playing." She loves to explore new art mediums, and remains open-minded and curious.

Liza also enjoys teaching and journeying with others through their creative endeavors both in the studio and online. Children's art camps, lessons and women's workshops and retreats allow Liza to share her love of making.

The artist's home and studio are located on the Choctawhatchee Bay, just north of Scenic Highway 30-A and the Gulf of Mexico in Florida.

1) Which course/s did you take?

I took Scale with Heart on how to create an online course on Squarespace.

2) What is your business and how did Kerstin’s course help your business grow?

I am an artist/maker/teacher. I both create artwork and offer art lessons and workshops to children and women in my studio. When life is “normal,” I am in the studio daily creating and playing, hosting weekly homeschool art class, and offering workshops to women and kids.

Implementing Scale with Heart and Kerstin’s step-by-step directions on how to create online classes enabled me to extend my platform for teaching to the online community. In March of 2020, during our "shut in" season, I began creating free "how to draw" short videos for children on my website - as a way to serve both artists and their parents who likely needed a break at times.

This led to implementing Kerstin's class and creating a full workshop online for parents to purchase. Portrait Pack for Kids includes short, self-paced art lessons for artists on how to draw a self-portrait and how to draw a family portrait. It includes downloadable templates and brief education on the art elements and art history, too!

In two weeks I sold 80 Portrait Pack for Kids online workshops. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed and so grateful for Kerstin's step-by-step class which taught me how to take an idea and make it happen!

I have heard nothing but stellar feedback from my young artists and their parents regarding the workshop. Parents frequently send me photos of their children's artworks from this workshop - and I am amazed!

3) What was your favorite thing about the course and would you recommend it?

I loved Kerstin's easy to follow, step-by-step instruction. Her demeanor and knowledge encouraged me to get my project accomplished in a timely manner. I also appreciated the online Facebook Community where I could post follow-up questions, and receive feedback quickly from Kerstin and other participants. The community aspect is fantastic!

I would encourage a friend or fellow teacher to purchase the class right away! The investment upfront for this class paid me back tenfold, and I felt so confident after my project was completed.

Kerstin's class promotes SUCH extreme confidence... rather than hiring someone to create an online course for me, I had the chance to do it myself!
