I use a sidebar for my eCourse navigation. If your template doesn’t have a sidebar I recommend the Sidebar Plugin which is explained in lesson 2.7.
Bedford, Anya, Bryant, Hayden
The Bedford family has unique sidebars per blog. The sidebar is turned on universally in the style editor so all of your blogs will have a sidebar when you check that option, but each sidebar will be different per blog. I use Bedford so what you see on my courses is a unique sidebar.
Five does not have unique sidebars but you can turn on/off sidebars per blog or page. If you are already using a sidebar in Five (for instance for your main blog) you need to turn the sidebar OFF for your eCourse blog and then use the Sidebar Plugin (affiliate link). I explain how to do that in lesson 2.7.
Templates without sidebars
Templates without a sidebar work because you can use the Sidebar Plugin. I explain how to do this in lesson 2.7. Here is a list of the templates that do not have sidebars and are suitable if you are happy to use the Sidebar Plugin:
Brine, Aria, Basil, Blend, Burke, Cacao, Clay, Ethan, Fairfield, Feed, Foster, Greenwich, Hatch, Heights, Hunter, Hyde, Impact, Jaunt, Juke, Keene, Kin, Maple, Margot, Marta, Mentor, Mercer, Miller, Mojave, Moksha, Motto, Nueva, Polaris, Pedro, Pursuit, Rally, Rover, Royce, Sofia, Sonny, Sonora, Stella, Thorne, Vow, Wav, West
Pacific, Bryler, Charlotte, Fulton, Horizon, Naomi
Tremont, Camino, Carson, Henson
York, Artesia, Flores, Harris, Jasper, Jones, Lange, Shibori
Avenue, Bureau, Forte, Foundry, Galapagos, Ishimoto, Julia, Montauk, Om, Skye, Tudor, Wexley, Wells
All of these templates have sidebars but they are not unique and they can’t always be turned off. If you use one of these templates but don't have another blog on your website then you can just follow the normal procedure in this course and use a blog with a sidebar for your eCourse. However, this will only work if you will only ever have one course. If you are planning to have more than one then I do not recommend a template from this group.
