As a professional web designer you’d think I’d know all of the little Squarespace tricks, right? Not quite. As it turns out there is always something to learn for me as well. Of course there is!
Squarespace recently introduced starter layouts and they are great, especially if you are a Squarespace beginner and Still learning how it all works.
These starter layouts are basically page templates with pre-defined text and image blocks. There are quite a few to choose from and they are very helpful for getting a page started. You can then either stick with what you're given or make changes and also add content blocks as needed.
So I decided to use one of those layout templates for one of my current projects. It was the ‘Features 3’ layout and I wanted to add one more photo to it, right between the two image blocks at the bottom.
I made sure that all three photos had the same dimension of 1500 x 1000 pixels but when I inserted the 3rd photo it did not align correctly with the other two, the width was the same but not the height. This stumped me and I wondered whether it had something to do with the way these starter layouts were configured?
I emailed customer support and within 30 minutes I had my response: there is a little trick you can use to make all three images the same size. And once I realized what that little trick was I just couldn’t believe that this had never occurred to me! It’s so simple and obvious. Doh.
Here is a short video showing what I did. This site, as mentioned, is still in development so this may not be the final version. But I thought it would be nice to use a real life example for this demonstration :)
